Big Sky Beekeepers met at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 12 in the conference room at Westside Lanes.  Cam Lay was our guest speaker.  He began with a quick overview of honeybee biology and life cycles, especially as it relates to a northern climate like Montana.  He then gave us a quick update on Montana beekeeping regulations.  He talked a little about the commercial beekeeping industry, how it works and what interests the commercial guys and the hobbyists have in common, and their differences.  He showed us a few slides about bee diseases and treatment, emphasizing the importance of Varroa mite control.  He finished with some beekeeping “tips and tricks” that he has found useful.
