A meeting of Big Sky Beekeepers was held at 6:00pm on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the club apiary. We discussed accessories for the Langstroth hive, including the slatted rack, bee escapes, and a screened bottom board modified to facilitate oxalic acid treatment. We discussed alternatives to the standard Langstroth hive, including the Warre and top bar hives. There was a demonstration of the “Bee-Vac” with a discussion of how to make one and how it can be used to facilitate swarm captures and colony extractions. Examples of this equipment were available to examine. It was a pleasant evening and the meeting was well attended.
